Lok Sabha Elections 2024: BJP’s Selection of Bharti Pardhi from Balaghat-Seoni

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has picked Bharti Pardhi to run for the Balaghat-Seoni seat. Many were surprised because she wasn’t a well-known name and wasn’t expected to be chosen. This decision meant that the current Member of Parliament, Mr. Dhalshingh Bisen, didn’t get the ticket again, which shocked a lot of people.

However, Bharti Pardhi has a strong connection to politics in Balaghat. Her family has been in politics for a long time. Her father-in-law, Bholaram Pardhi, was elected as a Member of Parliament from the same place in 1962. He was from a small village called Atri in Lalburra block and was part of the socialist party. He was the first non-Congressi Member of Parliament in the Mahakoushal region and the first district president of the Janta Party.

It’s said that Bharti Pardhi has been close to the Sangh, and she got support from cabinet minister Prahlad Singh Patel, who is powerful in the Mahakoushal region. He suggested her name to the BJP leaders for the Balaghat-Seoni seat.

The Political Journey of Bharti Pardhi

Bharti Pardhi started her political journey as a Zila Panchayat Member in 2002. Her husband, Khirsagar Pardhi, was also a Zila Panchayat member before. Currently, she serves as a parshad from Nagar Palika Parishad Balaghat Ward Number 22. She previously held positions like district vice president and district general secretary for the BJP in Balaghat.

Bharti Pardhi was born on February 23, 1968, making her 56 years old. She completed BHSC (Home Science) in 1985 from Rani Durgavati University Jabalpur. Although she was initially considered for Assembly elections, the BJP decided to field her directly for the Lok Sabha elections.

The BJP has been winning in the Balaghat-Seoni seat since 1998 and hasn’t lost it since. As Gaurishankar Bisen won in 1998, Prahlad Patel won in 1999, Gaurishankar Bisen again in 2004, K. D. Deshmukh in 2009, Bodh Singh Bhagat in 2014 and Dhal Singh Bisen in 2019. The Last non-BJP Member of Parliament from this seat was Vishveshwar Bhagat who won in 1991 and 1996. Other candidates running for this seat include Samrat Saraswar from the Congress and Kankar Munjare from the Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP).

In short, Bharti Pardhi’s unexpected nomination shows the BJP’s strong hold in the Balaghat-Seoni area. It’s a blend of family ties, political support, and grassroots work that got her the ticket.
