Congress Party Releases the First List for Lok Sabha Election 2024: Rahul Gandhi, Bhupesh Baghel, and Shashi Tharoor Among 39 Candidates

The Indian National Congress (INC) has released its initial list of candidates for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, consisting of 39 seats. The list includes prominent names like former Congress President Rahul Gandhi, ex-Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel, Dr. Shashi Tharoor, and AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal.

As per the party sources, further candidate selection for the remaining seats may be determined after seat-sharing discussions within the INDIA bloc. This announcement comes nearly a week after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released its first list of 195 candidates.

The list includes 6 candidates from Chhattisgarh,  7 candidates from Karnataka, 16 from Kerala, 1 from Lakshadweep, 2 from Meghalaya, 1 from Nagaland, 1 from Sikkim, 4 from Telangana, and 1 from Tripura.

Key Points from the Congress Party First List

  • Rahul Gandhi to contest from Wayanad Seat.
  • Congress leader Dr. Shashi Tharoor will contest from Thiruvananthapuram.
  • The former Chief Minister of Chattisgarh, Bhupesh Baghel, will contest from Rajnandgao.
  • The former Home Minister of Chattisgarh will fight the election from Mahasumund.
  • K.C.  Venugopal, General Secretary of All India Congress Committee (AICC) to contest from Alappuzha.
  • Senior Congress Leader, Jyotsna Mahant will contest from Korba.
  • Out of 39 candidates revealed, 15 are from the General category, and 24 are from SC, ST, OBC, and minority groups.
  • 12 candidates are below 50 years of age;  8 candidates are in the age group of 50-60; 12 are in the age group 61-70; 7 candidates are in the age group 71-76;
